Heron Lake – Club Rules

General Membership

  • Fishing is strictly members only.
  • Membership cards must be shown on request or you will be asked to leave.
  • All members must hold a current Environment Agency rod licence.
  • Under‑12s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Fishing Rules

  • No fish may be removed from Heron Lake.
  • No night fishing – fishing is permitted from dawn until dusk only.
  • Rods must not be left unattended at any time.
  • Maximum line strength: 8lb.
  • No braid permitted.
  • Barbless hooks only, size 10 maximum.
  • One rod only may be used at all times.
  • No fishing in the conservation area.

Bait Restrictions

  • Banned baits: nuts and trout pellets.
  • Maximum 2 tins of luncheon meat or cat meat.
  • Maximum 1kg of groundbait.
  • No loose feeding of floating baits and no fishing floating baits.
  • No bread as hook bait or feed.
  • Boilies: maximum 15mm, hook bait onlyno feeding boilies.

Keepnet Rules

  • Keepnets must be carp‑friendly (no old‑style mesh).
  • Keepnets must be emptied every five hours.
  • 60lb maximum per keepnet (matches & pleasure fishing).
  • At least two rings of the keepnet must remain underwater at all times.

Site Conduct

  • No fires permitted.
  • All rubbish must be taken away.
  • Banks may be slippery when wet – take care.

Enforcement

  • Anyone caught breaking these rules will be suspended until further notice
Reminder: All members are permitted to act as club bailiffs and may request to see anglers' membership cards and check tackle complies with club rules. All members are expected to comply with these requests
