About Us

Cotgrave Welfare Diamond Angling Club was formed in 2003 after the closure of Cotgrave Colliery, which used to occupy the site of the Hollygate Park estate and the country park. Signs of the pit history can be seen near the lake in the form of the old railway tracks which are visible in places near the south side of Heron Lake.

Nottinghamshire County Council decided to develop part of the colliery site into a country park including a lake.

Four past and present members contacted the council to ask about using the lake for fishing. The council agreed and leased them the lake and the fishing club was born.

One of the first jobs for the newly formed fishing club was to stock the lake with a variety of fish. The club continues to stock the lake on an annual basis.

Regular Saturday and Sunday club matches are held throughout the year on the lake all are well attended resulting in good weights for the anglers.

The club operates a members only policy

Following the 2026 AGM the club has been renamed Cotgrave Angling Club and taken out membership to the Angling Trust to support with insurance provision and development opportunities.
